Wilkinson Tuners Don't Fit Squire!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Folks,

I ordered a set of Wilkinson inline open tuners from
Hong Kong. They were recommended both here and
at HC. When I went to install them on my Affinity P
bass, and they were too big!

I had to grind them down to get them to fit. Red
arrows show where I had to grind. The top one
even hung over the edge!

I got them on and they seem to work fine,

I should have checked the measurements,

But I assumed they would fit because they said;
"Direct replacement for P and J basses"

Just thought I would give a warning to those who
are thinking about buying Wilkinsons. Check the
dimensions close. I still don't think my headstock
is smaller than regular Fender head stocks.

If I'm wrong, someone please clue me in,

Tabdog

"Wilkinson Tuners Don't Fit Squire!"

Let's see, that means they probably won't fit Squier, either.

But you were creative and it looks like you did very nice work in modifying them.

I thought the affinity lined used smaller measurement tuners? I know their bodies are a bit smaller and thinner in general.

People are always saying Affinities
are this way, or that way.

There are a lot of different Affinities.
Mine is the same size and thickness
as my son's Precision bass. Same
type of wood also.

I have found that there are different
hole spacings and even different hole
diameters on Finder basses.

It seems I bought the vintage style.
The newer ones are usually smaller
framed. But even the new ones may
vary.

Thanks for the input! One more thing to be aware of when modding a bass.

When I put new tuners on my Affinity P I had to open the hole for the post. The afinity tuners were super small compared to some generic P/J tuners but did not have to grind the bodys.
