I have a Turser '54 P copy and need to add weight at the butt end to reduce neck dive. I have a Fender bridge cover on it (really adds a nice visual touch) and I'm wondering if a BA II will fit under the bridge cover. Anyone tried this??

In fact, I know this because on eBay a lot of people have been marketing the P-bass cover as the "BadAss Fender cover" or even the "Geddy Lee" cover.. Anyway, the front of the bridge might show a little bit but apart from that it should fit fine.

| | | | well if you get a BAII on there it's pretty weighty so I don't think you'll have a problem with neck dive. |

I've been playing around with various ways to shift the balance and lessen the neck dive. One of my best alternatives is that a tire shop gave me 12 oz. of adhesive tire weights, much of which I think I could stick inside the bridge cover. I haven't been able to get an accurate weight on the BA II, but it's clearly heavier than the standard Fender-style bridge that's on the bass. However, I'm sure it's not 12 oz. heavier than the Fender-style bridge.
What would be ideal would be adding the bridge AND still having room to add a bunch of the adhesive weight inside the bridge. I could easily add a pound to the butt end of the bass without making it unpleasantly heavy. That's why I'm playing with the idea of a BA II. The cover doesn't weigh enough to make any difference in the balance, it just looks great. |

You could also relocate the bottom strap button to a higher point on the bottom of the bass...but that might look cheesy. |

Try a wide, suede strap. It works wonders for neck dive.
As for the weight of a BAII chrome, w/o mounting screws: |

I can weigh my Fender bridge (or maybe I have one loose) and see how much difference it would make to switch.
Yup, I have a grippy strap |

I haven't personally tried a P cover on a BAII, and I haven't been able to find the old post where someone tried a P cover on a BAII and claimed it worked... I looked. |

Im not sure if there are larger versions of the cover but the standard one is not wide enough.

Now the bass balances much better! Moreover, I didn't spend $ on a bridge I don't need. I've always been happy with the stock Fender-style bridges.
For a "how-to", check my post #136 near the end of this thread, with pictures.... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showth...34#post4939332
