Will leaving the neck with no string tension be bad?

Tomorrow i will be taking my bass's neckplate to the shops to be engraved so i will be leaving the strings with pretty much no tension. This way, they dont pull the neck in the absence of the neck plate. Will the lack of tension be bad for the neck/truss rod?

Be sure to loosen the truss rod so the neck is straight.
