Will my case screw up my bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Odd situation ... at least to me ...

The edges of my bass case are curving up at the sides. I'm a bit miffed at Carvin for not helping me out with a new case, but I've had it for more than a year, so it's beyond warranty.

Anyway, I'll post some pics if I can figure out how to do it ... but essentially, the middle two buckles work fine, but I need to apply pressure to make the outer two shut. Will this screw up my neck at all? I haven't noticed anything too wacky with my neck, but I really like my bass, and don't want to take any chances ...

Does the case do that when the bass isn't in it? I guess I'm asking if it's the bass that's pushing the case open like that.

Wow... that sucks.
The bottom appears to be flat, so you wouldn't think it would hurt the neck, but who knows.

Is that case of the molded plastic type?

Since only the top appears to bent, has it had weight or heat at all on the lid? Perhaps left for extended periods with the lid open?

Not that any of those things should cause it.
Dumb question, I guess...

I wonder if other Carvin owners have experienced anything like that?

Indeed, it does suck.

And yes, it is the molded plastic type ... I believe it's called ABS.

To answer questions ... the case has not endured any odd weight or heat, and it's only open when the bass goes in or out.

Just seems really weird to me ... these are all relevant questions, as I'm just shrugging my shoulders.

I think it will be fine as long as the case doesn't open accidentally while you're carrying it.

MY modulus case does the same thing.
To me its only on the side of the case that holds the body. I have carefully examined that it is in fact the stacked treble knob that causes me to have to push the case closed to make it latch.
I just assumed it was normal and that if it wasnt on the treble knob it would be something else.
I could be completely wrong here but it seems like some kind of pressure of the inside of the case would keep it from rattling around.
I wonder if they dont just fit these cases by putting in a blank or dummy bass and closing it to make the mold on the inside?
Should I send this case back it hasn't been a year yet?
Who makes a (real)good case?

My case does not stay open like yours without the bass in it. That does suck. Was it always like that? I dont see how it could screw up your bass.

I had a fender abs case that did that exact thing .. it brought back fond memories from way back when .. but it had no adverse affects on my bass at all .. and it wasn't the bass pushing it in anyway shape or form .. I think the previous owner had just let it sit in the sun a bit too much

I own a Carvin and I have the same issue. Haven't had any problems with it and I don't see how it would hurt anything as long as the case doesn't pop open while I'm carrying it. You could always email or call Carvin and ask them about it.

thanks for your input, all.

I'll post an additional picture that I couldn't locate before ... just for its sheer nastiness. BTW ... that is the bridge end, obviously, so not really an issue.

The only thing I was really worried about was undue stress on the truss, but as nobody has had a case mess us their truss rod, and people seem to have had the same issue, I will put my worries to rest.

Peace.
