| If you have to constantly tighten your rod you will run out of threads at some point; you do have a problem that needs professional attention and stop it until you get help.
Your friend is wrong, although string tension is causing the need for constant adjustment, it is not a concern on a healthy instrument. Your bass is not healthy; it sounds like the wood is compressing either on the bearing surface of the truss nut or the far end, the internal anchor, it just keeps mashing wood down letting rod tension drop. Get an instrument builder to look at it, a GC tech will be of no help. .
