I'm thinking of using Schaller strap-locks on a project bass, but I wondering if they will work with thick leather straps?
I'm using Italia straps that are at least 3/16" thick...

...Looks like I might have to go with plan B. I have an Ibanez g**tar that has some strap buttons that are about 5/8" in diameter. I'll have to try to find some of those...

I just pounded the strap a little with a hammer, and had to use a pair of pliers to get the nut on.
Once it was on, and tightened a few times, it's worked just fine.
Would be nice if they weren't so skimpy with the threads!!! |

Got mine onto my thick leather strap... took some time with mole grips to hold the lock still and a box spanner to work on the nut end... had to do a little work first to make the hole itself bigger as it kept curling up and preventing the nut from starting on the thread...

If you don't clamp it long enough, it'll expand before you can get the nut on, so don't get in too big a hurry....

I'm probably going to ditch the strap-lock idea. I really like my wide Italia straps. It's not like I sling my basses around my neck or anything.
Has anyone tried these Gripper Strap Buttons from Stew-Mac?
