When I push on my neck to "bend" down (think Sheehan), my MIA's neck creaks. I don't even push hard or anything. Why does it do that?

Scott | Could that cause it? I have a new harness coming in sometime next week. And I want to get a new Pickguard and I'm toying with the idea of a BAIII bridge. Will check the bolts then.

Seriously, check that the neck screws are tightened enough. Also, if the neck is a bit smaller than the neck pocket you can get some movement that will give a creaking sound. I had a guitar player friend who played his Strat that way. I finally fixed it for him by making a shim to hold the neck from moving and then replaced the neck screws (they were bent)
If that doesn't do it, it could be the truss rod and nothing will do much for you.
Basses weren't really meant to be played like that. I know Billy Sheehan does it, but really, look at the guy. |

Then don't do that."

As long as it's a creak and not a snap you're alright. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
