I am a Fender Precision lover. I have owned and played more Precisions than any other bass. I have always favored having a thumb rest, or tug bar, below the G string. My current #1 bass is a 2009 MIM Standard. Of course it did not have a thumb rest when I bought it new. I had ordered a Fender, black plastic, rest with the screws, and have had it around here for a while. Then I got the idea to make a wood one out of a nice piece of tiger maple I had here. I cut it it out to the exact dimensions of the Fender rest, and drilled holes in the same location. I countersunk the holes and sanded it smooth, and shot it with two coats of clear lacquer. Here it is mounted on the bass. The natural wood looks great with the maple fingerboard. I think it turned out pretty well.
