Wooden Bridges

How come they don't make wooden bridges with metal saddles. I know that sustain could be a problem, but a wouldn't a wooden bridge offer more tonal options?

I'm afraid the market would be too narrow for it to be profitable. That's why you're on likely to see setups like that on some of the top boutique basses.
