Is it worth it?

Hey guys, i am starting out doing a project on my Squier P-Bass. I want to decide what to do with it before i actually go out and buy things, or make any changes to it. What i was really wondering is... is it worth it to put a fretless neck on this Squier. I would have to go and purchase one from either warmoth, or somewhere else. Ive heard fretless Fender P-Basses and i think they sound awesome. I just think all fretless basses sound awesome in general. So do you guys think i should put a fretless neck on this, or should i just keep it fretted, and buy a seperate actual fretless bass, that comes fretless, later on.

Its your project but IMO I would forget that its a bass project and call it a car overhaul or such. You can fall in love with an old car that needs a lot of work and the vision of what it will look like and how it will run when its done....Or just cut to the chase and get a new car. A new frettless neck sounds great to me but once your done it sounds like your over budget. But as a project for the love of doing it I would not back out of it.I'm sure you'll learn a lot about frettless basses.......
Dont' forget to post your progress pictures as you go....

If you're thinking Warmoth or one of the other fancy parts suppliers, I'd think money-wise you'd be a good bit better off getting an already fretless instrument.

You can get a Squier VM fretless for approx the price of Warmoth neck.

If you're looking into it because you don't need the fretted P and you want an engaging DIY project, then go for it! To me, starting with Squier-type bones, I'd get a fretless neck on the cheap.

BassMasta, is it an Affinity, or an upgraded model like a CV or VM? If it's an Affinity, don't waste your money. The body is thinner than a "real" P and made of (an inferior soft wood, the name of which I can't think at the moment - help?) and the pickup is pretty lo-fi. Plus it's only worth about $80-100. If it's a CV or VM, maybe watch the classifieds here and get a cheap neck for it. Otherwise, unload it and buy a VM Fretless - they show up weekly for around $200 shipped and they are not bad.

I'd be rather tempted to just use it as a trade in toward a fender squire fretless P.
