Would it be possible to turn my Ibanez 4 String into a 6 string?

I've recently bought an Ibanez SRX 500 about 2 months ago, and it was my second bass. I had my beginner Austin bass for about 5 years, and can say I am very thankful I bought another bass. Anyway, I've just started listening to Dream Theatre more and more, and some of the bass stuff is insane. I'm confident I can learn it with time, but don't have the money to buy a whole nother 6 string bass. Is it possible to buy a bigger neck, and Bridge, and convert my 4 string bass to a 6 string?

Way more effort and money than it's worth!

almost anything is "possible", but no matter how hard you try, you wont be able to justify doing that to your bass, unless you have more money than sense (which doesnt seem to be the case). i have seen some pretty insane conversions and hybrids (most recently, a les paul custom, whose neck was shaved down and set up as a 4-string mandocello--- now that was hedonistic!).

how about a rondo 6-er?

More interested in staying with Ibanez then anything, which is why I was looking to do this.

I can see why it would cost a fortune though. Maybe I'll just save up for a 6 string.

It's brutal tuning my 4 string to a 6 string, though, I'm scared to tune back up, because I don't want the neck to snap.

this bass is 180 plus shipping

34 inch scale, ash body and less than 9 lbs... and it might even be made in the same factory as an ibanez...

I loved my first Ibanez 4 string as much as you probably do and wanted to just upgrade the electronics and when the salesman told me it wasn't worth the time and money I was really ticked that guy told me MY baby wasn't worth the time or money. But eventually I realized he was right and simply upgrading to a better Ibanez was the way to go.

Ibanez makes a great SR506 for $600 new, I'm sure you can find a good used one in the classifieds here on TB for $400 or so. Then you don't have to tear up your beloved Ibanez 4 string.

A question about the Rondo's.

Are they sold in Canada? Like can I go down to a store to check it out? Because I'd like to compare one to an Ibanez Sr 506 before I make a purchase. That is fairly cheap though.

I don't think there are any storefronts that carry Rondo. It's all online. There used to be a store in NJ, but Kurt closed shop and went all online.

He does have a killer return policy though. May be worth looking into.

Yeah. I went online, and couldn't seem to find that bass under the "Basses" category. Is there a number that I could give him a call at to get a price confirmation?
