Xcelite L8 Nut Driver Won't Fit 4003 Ric

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an Xcelite L8 1/4" nut driver because that is what is supposed to go on the truss rod nuts of the Rickenbacker 4003 bass.

It won't fit--the walls of the nut driver are wayyy too thick to go on the nut properly. The wood as well as the other nut are in the way.

Also, the socket is not very deep--I am afraid that even if I can get the driver on the nut, it will not grab properly, and I may round off the nut.

Anyone run into this? This is supposed to be the driver that Ric sells on their website.

If the driver had thinner walls, and was much deeper it would be perfect.

A 1/4" drive deep socket.

Yes.

But why does every bit of research say it is the Xcelite L8, when the Xcelite L8 I received is not a thin walled nut driver?

Sometimes, you need to scrape away a bit of the wood inside the truss rod cavity. Maybe even some paint or varnish from the nuts themselves. But the tool you have, is the tool to use, for sure. Good luck, just use a small exacto knife and remove some wood.
