on a Yamaha RBX, the nut doesn't sit in a slot, but rather sits on the end of your fingerboard...at any rate, the procedure is the same...

take the broken nut out with a pair of flat plyers...(a slight rocking motion may be needed).

get a new nut...best to make one (groove it to proper depth), but a pre-made nut from a place like Carvin will work...

"dry fit" the nut to check the string groove depths.

once nut is right, a small dab of PVA (white glue) is all I use..

I think that the Carvin nut should be the same width as the RBX...but I'd measure to be sure...

I very often use a block of wood (as a punch) and a hammer, and knock the nut towards the headstock and it pops right off.

Check the end of the fretboard and the neck where the nut was fastened to be sure the nut came off clean. If any piece of the nut remains, then use a file or sandpaper to be sure that the new nut will seat squarely. I use one drop of "crazy glue" to fast the new nut in place.

I usually find that pre-made nuts work very well, and very often they don't need any adjustment at all. The nut slot depth / string height above the fretboard seems to be just about right. I'm not too fussy though.
