Yamaha trb1005 project

So I've been playing my trb for a couple years now, and i really love the feel of the bass. However, I have never been crazy about it's electronics or the bridge. So I'm opting to customize it a bit. Heres my plan:

-badass V bridge
-nordstrand fat stacks
-aguilar preamp

I'm pretty, sure after some measurement, that the pickups and preamp will work out, but i'm not sure about the bridge. If anyone knows anything about trbs, or just doing this kind work, any advice is appreciated. I'm just want to make sure everything will work out.

What don't you like about the pups dude? My TRB1006's pup are great - Yamaha factory standard.

Just curious..

I have a 1005F (fretless) and I did change the bridge to a Gotoh w/ 19mm spacing, which IŽm more familiar with (Yamaha has enough width on the fingerboard to allow the switch). Had to drill new holes, but well worth the operation anyway.

ThereŽs something I dislike in the electronics... The hiss. It could be the preamp, though, so one day IŽll cjange that, too...

Any updates on this? I'm curious how it sounds....

I have a trb1005, it's my primary gig bass. I love the feel of it, and while I do like the tone, it's a bit noisy. I think it's the electronics, and I have been thinking about swapping out the preamp. I'm wondering if that would fix it.

Yamaha BBN5A Experience

Hey!

I did some mods on my Yamaha BBN5A with the pickups and preamp so i would like to share some stuff with you guys.

Yamaha pickups apparently are a little special, according to the techies i talked to they said that the pickups are some kind of differential type of pickups and the preamp is tuned to the pickups. So switching out the preamp would mean you may have issues with the pickups, which i did.

I had 3 wires coming out of my pickups, one silver, one red and one white. The silver is obviously the ground but i didn't know what the red or silver was. I wired both wires together though and treated it as a hot wire, i was using a Audere Classic 4 preamp then, when i got this particular preamp installed in, my output was very very low.

I couldn't even match a passive bass's output. I contacted Yamaha and apparently the red and white was a +, - wire which i didn't know how to wire.

So if you want to do mods on the pickups or preamp please do check first. Maybe my N5A was a little special, i opened up a G5A and the pickups were purely passive, two obvious wires, hot and ground.

I didn't know why mine had 3, active maybe but Yamaha couldn't answer that, they claimed it was passive.

Cheers!
