yawn another fretbuzz problem

Sign in to disble this ad
hello guys n girls i'm new to this forum just wonering if anyone can help me sus out why i'm getting fretbuzz

i have just encountered a problem with my beloved maverick 4 string... i'm getting fretbuzz on the 1st fret of the A string there's no buzzing anywhere else on this bass at all nor has there ever been
i set my action at 2.5mm on the treble side and 3.5 on the bass side with the A string somewhere inbetween
i have a releif of 0.5mm on the neck and i play with rotosound flats (50-110)
i've shimmed the nut and this has not solved it i raised my action on the string which made it a little better but also made it play like a violin
i'm beginning to think it might be a high fret i've tried laying a straight edge on it to see if it rocks but it appaers to be pretty solid

any ideas??

Use the search option above to find answers before posting.

As far as fret buzz:

1) Check relief
2) Check action
3) Check nut height
4) Check fret height
5) check that the saddles follow the same height contour as the radius of your fretboard at the 12th fret.
6) Make sure you not does the same
7) don't use rotosound, they seriously suck! Use D'addario instead.

For a good setup guide check out the Fender support section here

thanks for the help
everything seems to be pointing to a low fret on the 1st i adusted the action to 4mm and put over 1mm releif on the neck whic made it a little better but the buzz was still there
i shimmed the nut but this produced no change either
i did however stuff a bit of paper under the 1st fret and the buzz vanished so i'm pretty sure its just a low lying fret seen as its the 1st fret i should be ok just changing the one fret rather than re doing the whole neck?
and rotosound rule i've tried D'addario i found them to be very rubbery feeling and very dead compared to the roto's plus they dont do heavy guage (50-110) which i like each to there own i guess
