Those strings aren't by any means new or perfect, but they don't look quite THAT bad in real life. they are slightly icky, but not that bad. I have another bass that gets much more use, and that gets priority on new strings.
and about those curtains... that's crazy man, those are like... 15 or 16 years old.

It's pretty accentric huh?
What do you guys think of the Marcus Miller sig bass? It's basically a Jazz that's been hotrod by the cat himself! Minus the Sadowsky preamp of course. You guys like em?
And sorry for posting a same kinda thread recently....I somehow forgot that I posted this one...I deleted it already |

It is the nicest instrument I've ever played, and if the americans are even better, I can't even IMAGINE how nice those must be. you see, i live in a small town far away from music stores, I have to mail order everything i buy for the most part which means that I don't even try my instruments before I buy them. So far I've managed to luck out and get ones I like. There are a few music stores about an hour/hour and half south, but i don't get down that way very often, and their prices are outrageous, and none of them sell fenders, which is what I really like for basses. My only real standard for comparison are my friends basses and the few i try im music stores. I'm not sure what my point in telling you all that was... oh yeah... MY J BASS RULES!
anywho, I figured that for that P-Bass, if i were to sell that thing i would at best get like 75 bucks for it, and I didn't want to let go of it for that cheap, but since i didn't really NEED to preserve it, i figured i'd have a little fun with it. And now that i have done all that and given it so much character, it's become much more enjoyable to play now. I just feel so cool. I imagine it's kind of like billy joe and his blue guitar, i mean, i can't imagine that must be a really NICE guitar, it's a fender knock off (fernandez i think?), it's ancient, and he's beat the crud out of it over the years, yet it's his favorite instrument and a favorite among the fans. That's kind of the deal with my P Bass, if i ever get famous, i'm gonna gig with that thing.

I rather liked that modifcation. By the way, i'm not a big ibanez fan, that was just the first guitar company that came to mind and the first one that i found a correctly sized logo for.

I have a Squier P Bass special, which is basically a p bass with a j bass' neck and pups from each bass. I did the following mods on it:
-Put on a Badass2 bridge
-Put on Basslines Quarter Pounder pbass pickup
-Put on Gotoh tuners
-Ripped out the Jazz pup and left the wires dangling in an uncovered hole
-Sanded off the bass' serial number, the "Squier" logo and the "Crafted in Indonesia" logo, so all it says is PRECISION BASS on the headstock
-Took off the tone knob and the Jazz's pup's volume knob and stuffed the pots under the pickguard. Set the tone knob to full treble and put masking tape over it to keep it from moving. Covered these 2 holes in the pickguard with a short piece of electrical tape.
-Put nail polish on the output jack! |

I eventually just broke down and got one. I like it. I'll try Gotoh next time, just to keep from having to file the string notches in the saddles.
This place has some Gotohs and I think Badass's. http://www.warmoth.com

The thing is I wanted to use the brass color badass for my bass....but if they'er really ugle then is there any other alternative that has the quality of Badass2? How much are they?

If they're chrome, use chrome. If black, then black. |

And so I end up getting the silver color, and color match everything based on my badass.
Anybody has pic of the gold badass2?

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2000 Location: Edmonton, AB, Canada | | | Just thought I'd let you all know about my MIM Jazz Fretless. So far all I've done is put a Schaller bridge on it. It was that bridge or the Badass 2, and I chose the Schaller because you're able to adjust the string spacing without having to file in permanent slots, like on the Badass. That extra bit of versatility helped me make my decision. I've had a 5 string Schaller bridge on one of my other basses before and I really liked the solid and classy look that they have to them and they also sound great and are easy to adjust, but the only minor detail about them is that they only have 3 screw holes instead of the Fender and Badass 5 screw holes, so it's not as easy a replacement. But it was installed with no problem though and the bridge looks great.
Now, the next project(s) will be putting in an Aguilar OBP-1, cause i've heard great things about them, and getting a new Warmoth ebony neck. Either unlined fretless or fretted, still haven't decided which though.
Also I will be putting in some new pickups and shielding the control cavity, but I have yet to decide what kind of pickups. Any recommendations, especially if I'm going to have an Aguilar active pre-amp in it? I'm considering these 2 so far, based only on recommendations: Fender 60's Custom Shop and Steve Bailey Basslines (I think that's what they're called). Suggestions? I'm looking for that warm, Jaco(ish), funky tone. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
