Would there ever be a reason to cut string grooves in to a zero fret?

Don't double-post, dude. It's bad form. On topic, i think if there were a reason to do it, you'd see it done occasionally. Have you ever seen it done? I haven't.

Was not sure which section it would fit best...

But yes, i have just baught a second hand Clover XP15-5 and when removing the truss rod cover to set up the neck i noticed the zero fret had grooves in the top 3 string positions acting as a double nut.
I'm not sure if this is a user mod or from Clover themselves,it may be just a trick to lower the string height at the nut end?

Hi.

Usually the grooves are just wear, but someone might have leveled and dressed the frets and wanted to make sure that the zero fret wouldn't be messed up accidentally.

Regards
Sam
