It's a great pre-amp but it's just too much like the READ Purity I have, and the READ was hand-made for me and you can't get one any more, so it's staying. The two parametric EQs will be very useful for someone who does a lot of gigging in suboptimal acoustic conditions! Nothing like being able to cut the standing wave freq with a narrow-band para eq.
'Too much like the READ Purity' means both of these pre-amps have a very clean hifi tube tone. The pre-amp will let the user colour their tone if they want to, so it's a great tool for us control freaks. OTOH it's very intuitive to use, so you don't have to be an audio engineer to get along with this preamp. This is what working musicians need: flexible, straightforward and reliable equipment. Oh and you can use it anywhere in the world as it has a switchable voltage power supply.
This preamp is only a couple of months old, costs GBP949 new and I'm asking GBP500. Would of course listen to any offers.
edit: since they'll be redundant if this sells, my as new, under 2 months old Peavey IPR 1600 power amp (only weighs 6 kg or so, yet rated 2 x 800 watts at 4 ohms!) and a completely mint 4U rack would be available with the Demeter for a total price of 790 pounds.
Specs from the website
The H Series Bass Preamp by James Demeter uses the same all tube front end found in his classic VTBP-201 Bass pre-amplifier and combines it with the revolutionary H Series circuitry found in his professional audio H Series line. This preamp provides the best of both the tube and solid state world. It features high voltage (250V) tube front end (providing all of the preamp gain and passive tone controls), a two band solid state fully Parametric Equalizer that is tuned for, bass, a fully adjustable active effects loop with controls up front, a tuner output, a full balanced output with switchable mic or line level, both a balanced TRS line level output and an unbalanced line level output for amplifier connections and a mute switch. As with all Demeter equipment it is meticulously hand wired, using the finest components and assembled in the U.S.A.
