FT one of a kind, looking for almost anything: ESH Theo Pas'Cal Stinger

Sign in to disble this ad
A bit of an oddity: Theo Pas'Cal's myspace personal bass. It's much more ergonomic to play than the looks would have you think: balances really well on the lap & strap. The neck is not the widest six string neck, so it's quite comfortable: it's not a really thin front-to-back neck like a Smith would be though. Upper horn is long, so there's not much of a reach to the first position, either. Theo's playing is so good I'll not add my own noodlings to it. Sounds pretty much the same, though. The video where he's playing this bass shows how it sits on the lap...

The most frequently asked specs:
neck: maple with dark stringers (walnut?)
fretboard: rosewood (?)
body: ash, two piece.
weight: 4,7 kgs on the bathroom scale
nut width: 56mm or 2,2 inches.
string spacing at bridge: 17,8mm
scale: a comfy 34,5"

Has Kent Armstrong humbuckers, a piezo system (makes Ken Smith pickups... which are placed quite similarly) and ESH on-board electronics. Has passive mode. Sounds something like a combination of Ken Smith and an F-bass to me.

According to ESH, to get one built to these specs would cost almost 5.000 euros now! The bass has only small marks which show up in the photos. Obviously, this isn't a new bass so the trade value is something of a mystery to me.

What I'm looking for:
- bass guitars
- electric guitars
- electric upright basses
- rack gear
- effects pedals
- new high end computer parts or laptops

Possible trades would be Fenders, Stingrays, Les Pauls, PRSi, TC 2290 etc. I do not take myself so seriously that I'd be insulted by any trade offer, the worst I will say is 'thanks I'll pass, and I'm kind of impulsive, so even a MIJ Jazz could take me by surprise!
edit: the trade value should probably be somewhere between 1000 and 1500 euros.

Bump for Ville and as a previous owner of this bass would just like to add that the headstock damage hasn't affected the structural integrity of the bass in any way. Stays in tune forever. Judging by Theos myspace pictures, the damage occurred while he still owned it so if it's good enough for him...

I actually bought the bass from Theo. The headstock isn't damaged - it just is not finished. They were going to put a signature onto laminate or something and put it on, but it just never got done. There was a luthier in Soho familiar with the bass who would be able to finish the job, but unfortunately I don't have the details.

Hi Mike,
there's a picture on Theos myspace that clearly shows the bass with a 'tail' on the headstock and the headstock in matching paint. I don't know if the photo was digitally edited or if he was telling you porkies but that's what's on his site.

Either way, really nice bass.

Cheers.
