It is a wenge/maple/padauk neck.
I think that is just a shadow the finger board is not bound. |

Can't wait to see how the camphor top and back "pop" when they get the finish applied. |

Other than really liking it for a fretless it sounds very fretless if that makes any sense.
Other detail i am not convinced about the bolt on neck is the best neck attachment method for this style of body.

I have built another 5 with a bolt on neck and the customer is perfectly happy with the access so it is workable. I feel the set neck improves this and is aesthetically more pleasing if more work. |

I've spent a fair bit of time noodling on it and, as Alan said, it's about as fretless sounding as a fretless bass can get, really natural and woody.
The ACG Pre amp means you can really accentuate that "mwah" sound.
It's also chambered, are you doing the same with yours?
As a result it was really comfortable, almost effortless to wear.
I own the bolt-on SC bass that Alan mentioned and it's perfect for me.
I really like the attack of a bolt-on bass, which is why I requested it.
A set neck looks nicer, and affords slightly better access on all strings right up to the 24th on the B string, but I can't remember a time I ever played up there, on the low strings anyway, so I don't think it'll ever be an issue
Cheers,
Eude |

I'm probably going to string it with nylon wrapped strings (my faves for fretless).
Can"t wait til its done!!! |

Got some more work done on the Finn single cut.
Finally started a new bass today. A Recurve 5 fretless. |

Custom wound Bart Classic type pickups and J retro pre-amp.
Red LED,s
Teal stain on the top with clear coat on body.
And some over due progress on the bound neck for the LH Recurve S Type. |

Using Bart pickups and J-Retro in one of your basses sorta misses the point of having an ACG to my mind--the signature ACG pickups and preamp are part of what makes them special--but I'm sure it will be a great bass nonetheless.
Do you have SIMS doing the LED's? I would think the aqua blue ones would go great with that teal top, but I like things to match!
Mike

I will get Aaron to wind something along the lines of the Bart in my own pickup housing so it will still look like my usual offerings. I have a few basses with Retro's in them and a few more in the pipeline. The filter pre-amp is not for everyone I would be the first to admit that so I offer a custom Retro for those that want something more familiar.
Sims will be doing the LED's in this one, the other two basses also have Martins LED's in them as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
