Oh, and is there any British wood that could be arcylisized (as that a word?...) and used for a fretless board?

Eude | Larry and Alan are obviously in a better position to give a definitive answer, but from my experience I'd think any fingerboard that had been acrylized could be used for a fretless.
And count me in on wanting more info on the dyed tops and board sets that Larry & Alan have in the works. Can't wait to see the results. |

I just enjoy popping around to give you good folks more reason to torment po' Alan

Larry asked if I was interested I said yes and leave Larry to do his thing. This is the system we use and it has worked pretty well for me and hopefully Larry as well. |

If you ever make anything in a Jaguar-like shape I will be unable to resist.

Alan | +1 for the higher strings being sweeter on a shorter scale.
I've got 3 x 33" basses and the higher register is beautiful, might be even better on something shorter, but you will start to notice the lower register being ever so slightly less defined.
As far as frets go, from what I've been told, 22 or even 21 frets makes for a better slap sound, but bar that "rumour" I don't see any benefit unless you're going for a more traditional look...
