Some great looking necks there Alan. I particularly like these two:

I must admit, I find myself wondering how a deep (2-3"), chambered version of this large body would work as a 4- or 5-string bass. Most of the standard shapes are fairly compact, but something like this would allow for much more acoustic-like chambering...

Based on one of my designs but not my design. I would need to ask if I could use it. There would be a fair bit of room to chamber.

Hey Mike,
I came up with the body design. I'm flattered you'd consider using it.
It draws so heavily from Alan's designs, I don't feel I have the right to dictate it's use.
It is ~14" at the hips, which isn't really too much bigger than average.
The body was shaped specifically for the wide neck, so the lower cutaway might look a bit odd with a standard width neck.
From that back view picture, just imagine the outer maple neck portions removed, and you get an idea of how the cutaway would look.

I wonder how that would look slimmed down a little for a 4 string short scale...

That bass is going to be a beast by the way

Interesting stuff. I'm more familiar with the history of the highlands and islands, so that was a bit of education for me.

That looks like a familiar design / wood combo!

Beautiful. Love the wood combo and the neck heel is a thing of beauty.

The great thing about this thread is I can show my wife the pictures and she's almost as enthusiastic about the woodwork as I am. Which bodes well for future builds.
