Have you ever tried the RMC saddles?

| | | | I took a look on the website. The original body shapes are really cool.
Would it make the bass guitar much cheaper if one goes with non-exotic woods and cheaper options like a Gallus 4 and no active EQ, no piezo, 2 passive single coil pick-ups, mahogany neck and body, 2 volume pots, 1 tone pot, rosewood fretboard, and gloss red paint finish? |

Have a look at the Graft range of basses it covers most of the ground you mentioned above. http://www.acguitars.co.uk/News/174/ |

Now that you have had your headless for a bit, what do you think of the Graph Tech saddles/Hipshot Headless System? Is there anything you don't like about it or would do differently if you built another headless for yourself?

The bridge unit does it's job very well. My one issue with it is more in the 5 string basses in that the B string can be a bit of a pain to get the string into the ball end retainer especially if the saddles has been moved quiet far back for the intonation. Getting out again can also be a pain but other than that it is a good unit. |

And I love seeing alder on boutique builds. Yeah, it's not exotic but I think it looks much better natural (without an opaque finish) than people give it credit for. Very simple and classy IMO. |

Good to work with easy to finish and I like the look of it as well. On top of this it makes a nice sounding bass. |

But I've had electric guitars in alder before and think it's as good a wood as any, and looks good in a natural finish - if not particularly fancy or exotic.

Even then it has only been a couple of basses so I can't really draw a useful comparison. The word that comes to mind with Alder regarding sound is even. It does not seem to favour any particular frequency area just giving a well balanced response. |

| | | | The soft European Maple is particularly what I am curious about. Thanks for your description of Alder body ACGs.
