my Nordstrand order came in recently, and the 2-band pre I plan to utilize in an upcoming build just kept staring at me ... so I gave in to temptation this evening and swapped out the OBP-1 for the Nordy 2-band in the Honeyburst Axiom.

after running thru my QC to make sure everything was properly connected, I took a spin thru my reference amp here in the shop ...

I REALLY LIKE THIS PREAMP!

I have an identical configuration of Vol (pull passive) - Blend - DPT® - active Bass/Treble stack like I did with the previous configuration, but the Nordy 2-band really works well with the pair of Big Singles this bass is loaded with

I'm looking forward to a little bit of live rehearsal time this weekend to see if it holds as well or better than the Aggie

all the best,

R

The Vintage Recording Bass is awesome, as is the Axiom, but espcially the Vintage Recording Bass.

Here is the one time you'll hear me wish I was lefty..........

Nice, Rod. As usual, your basses look great. Especially the LPB and neck figuring on the Dark Star model. Glad to hear you are ready to get back to building.

due to the current economic scene, the relocation to Charlotte was put on hold for multiple reasons I still have the acreage there that we'll eventually relocate to ...

since we are being 'held hostage' here in Seattle I decided that I couldn't let my bass building sit idle any longer. we relocated to a new place here that has a private 2-car garage where I've been able to get set-up and running again.

I lost some tooling capacity and customization flexibility in the process, but I have also restructured to incorporate CNC tooling for many of my parts. don't be fooled by myths you may read on the internet - there's still a TON of hand worked craftsmanship needed to detail a rough-cut part off the CNC into a refined bass neck/body worthy of offering up for sale. the CNC is simply a tool helping me keep my costs down while also keeping my quality high

when I eventually get relocated to Charlotte I anticipate incorporating additional CNC tooling so I can set-up for dedicated part stations (i.e. one CNC set-up for body work and one set-up for necks. each CNC would have two stations, one for each side of the component being made)

by having the machines in-house, I can more closely control the costs associated with crafting an instrument from rough materials. the planned set-up for Charlotte would also allow me the capability to craft parts for other builders should there be interest to do so

all the best,

R

M-Series 4-string lefty

the M-Series 4-string lefty is progressing well, and should be heading off to the paint shop sometime in late Feb

since this is not a commissioned build, I thought I'd make this available in advance of its completion. this provides opportunity for someone considering a M-Series 4-string to have a say in the final specs and receive their new bass several months sooner than if they initiated the build process today

here's the body and neck as they exist at the time of this post

Current specs for this build:

- Figured Maple top on Spanish Cedar body core
- AAA Birdseye/Birdseye 21-fret neck with 1-1/2" nut width, 12"R fretboard, 0.80" thick at 1st fret, satin finish
- SS zero-fret, 6125 alloy frets
- Nordstrand Big Singles pickup set
- Nordstrand 2-band preamp wired Vol (p/p) + Blend + Passive tone + Active bass/treble stack
- Hipshot Type A bridge with .75" string spacing
- Hipshot Ultralights with Y-keys
- Dunlop strap locks
- copper foil shielding
- Electro-socket cupped side jack
- chrome hardware

I'm planning to have the body finished with a Honeyburst (like the Axiom above) as the hues would look splendid on the Spanish Cedar backside, but this isn't set in stone

the pickup routes are Bart BC sized, and deep enough for a stacked humbucker (like a Nordy Fat Stack) to have plenty of adjustment depth

email or PM me for pricing and financial details. I've shipped to Europe and Australia in the past, so I'm familiar with international shipping

all the best,

R

- Nordstrand 2-band preamp wired Vol (p/p) + Blend + Passive tone + Active bass/treble stack
