Heritage Plus Extreme - updates

the Heritage Plus 5 Extreme is almost wrapped up - I'm just a nut, string tree, and a set-up away from shipping this one off to its new home

===============================================

I completed the first Heritage Plus 4 Extreme bass late Sat evening, and just in time for me to haul it up to a camp gig on Sun so I could A/B it against my '77 Stingray in a live setting with decent backline amp and PA to a room filled with about 600 incredibly loud kids

As you can see, I opted to forget the pickguard all together and let that gorgeous piece of Ash shine thru 8-)

I am totally buzzed about how this came out and how it holds itself in the mix. In passive mode with the SCPB run solo it's about 95% of that old school P-bass, but with some serious added attitude. Rolling off the passive tone brought this right where a SCPB should be when strung with rounds.

Adding the preamp only intensified the growl and spank - and then I added the Big Single into the blend and really dug in. While not a Stingray clone, I can say that it definitely gave the 'Ray a run for it life once I slightly bumped the active bass/treble from noon to 1:00. Slapping with the SCPB solo was really giving the 210 Fender amp a workout that it wasn't used to. Overall I exceeded what I hoped to accomplish with this version of my Heritage Series bass line.

I'm hoping to get to the studio this weekend to cut a few sound clips. If I have time, I may even throw on a set of flats while I'm there and see how they change the sound

all the best,

R

It's Joe Moore, thanks for the Nordstrand NP4's again. I'm still loving those pickups & the look of your sweet basses has got me all gassed up.

Rod built this one for me some years ago now. We've rocked a lot of shows together, and while she's a real sweetheart passive, I've been talking to Rod about a preamp install.

As usual, he's great to work with, and I'm sure she's gonna be well taken care of.

finally getting a little time to get this thread its long overdue updates ...

for starters, the lefty Heritage Tribute '55 was completed and purchased by a repeat customer in England. here's a peek at how it left the shop here

the Lake Placid Blue metallic VRB-P5 has also been gone for quite some time, and is thumping the scene in Chicago. a couple images on how that one came out here

I have several new builds going at the moment, and several others in the paint shop that I didn't get images of before sending them off.

here's a lefty version of the white 5-string Heritage seen earlier

and here it is with pickup & control cavities routed, and getting the control jack hole installed

I have a VRB-P4 lefty that's just waiting for my Nordstrand order to come in so I can finish the wiring and set-up

there's more to post, but it'll have to be this coming weekend

thanks for checking out this thread!

all the best,

R

outta here! this body & neck are off to the paint shop.

I had a moment to crop the images I took this weekend of the final fit-up prior to boxing everything up for a UPS ride to the paint shop. in this step I lightly assemble the major components to validate one last time that everything fits like it should, that everything aligns properly, that the strings pull straight from the bridge saddle to the tuner post, and that there aren't any dings I missed in the final sanding. here's one last peek at bare wood getting fit-up

as seen here, this weighs in just under 7.0 pounds. when pickups, strings, paint, battery, and electronics get loaded I'm estimating that this is going to weigh somewhere just under 8.25 pounds

now the three to five week wait begins. since the paint shop only communicates if there's a problem, no news is good news until this arrives back at my door step

all the best,

R

the Rosewood fretboard is growing on me ...

Currently shopping for a builder...

for a 5 string Tele-style bass, and I'm glad I found this thread!

Questions: what's the bridge string spacing of your Heritage 5 strings? What's the nut width and fingerboard radius?

Of course, if it looks like your design will "fit" my needs, I'll call or email you for a price quote .

Thanks, and keep up the great work, they're beautiful!!

Jedi, Rod is building a Heritage 5 string Tele/'55 P for me as we speak. It has 18mm bridge spacing & is 1 7/8" at the nut.
