We played a very groovy gig last Friday here in London and we taped it via an iBook and the results aren't too bad - in fact they are pretty bloody good; here's a tune that I wrote in the main - but obviously the singer wrote all the words, oh yeah, and sung them as well - it's her on sax too:
<a href=http://www.munkio.com/music/Victor/Rough&Tumble.mp3>Tough & Rumble Boy</a>
Another one of our funk anthems:

Let me know what you think...
I'm going on holiday on Friday, to Thailand, so have fun without me and look after yourselves - all you ERBers don't scare the little ones now, and all you four-bangers keep on banging, basically play nice and have fun.

EDIT: at about 1:14 when the groove comes in, I can't help smiling, the bass is so growly and everything is funky. What bass are you using by the way?
My only criticism is that the guitarist needs to get just a bit tighter in the groove, I mean it's already pretty good, but just something for him to work on.
Shades of Jamiroquai, I guess that's why I dig this song.

As for the guitarist I think I know what you mean - but this is still a bit of a new song for us hence we could all do with tightening up a bit - but I'm glas you're digging the over all vibe - as much as there are some 'classic' funk grooves in what we're doing I wouldn't say there was any one band that has influenced us - basically anything that has the funk, be it drum and bass or soul or whatever - then that's definitely an influence!
Cheers

How is it recorded on the Ibook? Straight from the mixer?
Your tone is awesome. I don't like the tone on that horn though. The rawness doesn't fint the music IMO.
But that's just me, and I'm probably wrong. |

By the way you had told me about some kind of sweep picking you were doing, did you ever get any recorded?
I guess you're in thailand now, hope you're having a blast, let me know when you get back!
P.S. I tried learning a bit of "Plasma"... |

But that's just me, and I'm probably wrong. | Cheers GT and NW- forgot to say the other day that I was haaving doubts about the Warwick Thumb and EBS combination, but seeing as the signal for this recording was taken from the XLR D.I. on my EBS head - and note I used no compression aside from a little on the amp itself - I am now very happy with the resulting sound. The drummer's brother took a direct feed from the desk into his iBook - I simply 'normalised' the results in Sound Forge to boost all the frequencies - I think the over all recording kicks ass. As for the sax sounding harsh, I agree, but this is a pretty raw recording in the main so I hope you can make a few allowences for the various messy or rough sounding parts - we still have some rehearsing to do!

P.S. I tried learning a bit of "Plasma"... | Briefly - no sweep picking sounds yet dude, and go for it on learning my stuff - it's the only way I taught myself was by copying other bassists... |
