Hmmm...
A surprising percentage of King's X and Cheap Trick songs are played on a 12.
To me, an 8 is close enough sound-wise, with much less hassle and difficulty.
12-string guitar is all over the place.
I used to play an Ibanez 6/12 doubleneck guitar, and it was incredible.
The only instrument I wish I had never sold.
Seasons of Whither (Aerosmith), Beyond The Realms Of Death (Judas Priest) and Immigrant Song (Led Zep) were a few of the songs I used the 12 neck for.
Tom Petty/Heartbreakers, the Byrds, and the Beatles are a few of the obscure bands who used lots of electric 12-string guitar.
I'm sure there are many more--but it's late and I'm tired.
