1985 Metallica bootleg: I have found the best bass tone for metal.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Metallica is overrated. Cliff may be even a little overrated. But seriously. I have listened to a lot of metal. The BASS TONE on this recording is insane. Like, literally the best i've ever heard IMO.
Hopefully i wont get too many www.neo-geo.com/forums style flames on this thread. lol
Wow. A Neo Geo forum. Sounds like the worst of nerd-dom must have gathered there. And there's rules in place here against flaming. You know...rules...like any half decent forum should have.
As for the tone, well 1 i'm not into metal, and 2 i'm on a ****** laptop which has pretty much no bass so i wouldn't hear it anyway even if i listened to it.
Sounded great through some headphones. Great bootleg.
Makes me wonder how to get a sound like this...
I would not call that the best tone I have ever heard but I really liked it, had that guttural punch and growl. Very appropriate and fits well in the overall sound. Anyone know what bass he was on for this recording?
An educated guess would be a ric.
If this is the same "day on the green" show where cliff plays the star spangled banner in his bass solo.....I'm fairly sure he was playing a ric. There is a fair amount of video footage out there somewhere of this show.
100% fingerstyle too!
What? I can't use this!
It's no good for grindcore! ;)
In all seriousness, it does sound pretty nice! Punchy and has the emphasis on the right frequencies so it really cut.
That being said, it's best for Metallica. Not best for all metal.
The "Day on the Green" show I remember from Cliff 'Em All has Cliff playing his Aria at this show.
Good tone, but I think there are several best tones for metal.
