2 new loop vids

Happy New Year one and all - hope you had fun, whatever you did - London was shaking its booty...

OK, here are two new vids for you to potentially enjoy (or hate) - one is me making some loops and slappy sounds on my NT Thumb, and the other's me going loop-tastic on my fretless:

Hi Geoff - man I just got back from a kicking rehearsal with my band - hope you dig the loops, the fretless one is my fave - but the slap thing ends up nice and funky too. That's what I love about building a loop - it really can lead and end in unexpected places...

Hope you like 'em - they are pretty big files so sorry for the wait.

That sliding harmonic in the fretless video is sweet! Richard Bona does some stuff like that when he played on the Word of Mouth Revisited CD. Both videos well worth the wait!

The loop pedal is the Boss RC20 - which both Vic W and Bona use - it's a cracking pedal and the sound quality is really good - there's a new version which has upped the sample time from 5 minutes to about 20mins, I think - it's such a fun device because once you master the basics of playing in time and looping the riffs at the right point you can have hours and hours of fun - and actually get pretty creative. Of course I'm not taking the loop thing to the level of Steve Lawson etc but you can see/hear what is possible with just a couple of simple riffs.

Doesn't Vic also use an echoplex? When I met him (and made a foolio of myself :-p), I saw it on the rack.

I'm sure he has a load of extra effects besides - on the Bass Day 2003 DVD he's definitely using one of these - but I'm sure his list of toys is huge - prolly gets most of 'em free as well...

I like the way you layer stuff, though. Get a good groove going and then solo over it and stuff.

As a side note, have you seen Michael Manring play Teen Town with his looper? Seems like you can do a lot with them.

Thanks DW - I'm really working towards something bigger than what I've done so far - I just put some new strings on the Warwick today and I taped a few more things that kick the crap out of these! I'm going to be posting a few DT lessons on my site soon as well - because you guys deserve 'em. Thanks again for all the positive thoughts - I'm really going to take this further - honest guv!

Love the harmonics at the end of the slap loop. Has a very graceful sound to it. The fretless stuff is very tasty as well.

I was going to ask you what you were using, but I see it's done been asked and answered.

Because of you, my friend, now that I've come up with a little money to spend, I'm seriously considering getting one of these Looping Stations.

It's more of a want than a need, so it may very well take a back seat for a bit, but I would really like to get one eventually. That would work well because I usually jam with a friend who is a drummer, so I can lay down a little line, then play melody over it and it'll sound like a tune!

Thanks for the continued postings and looking forward to new stuff.

Go for it man - you won't regret it - any looper (Line 6 make good ones as well) will help you in some way; it takes the hassle out of making multiple-bass part tunes - just makes sure you tape the ideas!

What first struck my mind when I saw this video was:
A have to learn double thumping.
Second:
I have to get a looper.
Third:
I have to go practice.

Some really inspiring playing in there, man.
I tried a Boss loop-station in the local music-shop a while ago, and I got to admit; I didn't understand much. I put down some grooves, but couldn't get them in sync.
It seems like a well worth investement to buy one. But I aint gonna afford it in a while, because of that Fafner head wich is heading my way
