The 5 CDs you can't live without

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, you have to bring only 5 CDs on a desert island, heaven, hell, whatever, and you'll spend the eternity listening to these... What CDs would you bring ?

Here are mine :

-Blood Sugar Sex Magick, RHCP
-Abbey Road, The Beatles
-Legend, Bob Marley and the Wailers
-Kid A, Radiohead
-Don't smoke in bed, Holly Cole

Soul Junk - 1956
Medeski Martin and Wood - Combustication or perhaps a live bootleg
King Crimson - Heavy ConstrucKction
Tom Waits - Mule Variations (or some other Waits album...it varies week to week)
Waterdeep - To Chase Away the Birds.. (or maybe Live at the New Earth)

All of that might change tomorrow except for the first one.

Funny question... I'm going for it!

* Sting - Ten Summoners Tales
* Weather Report - Live and Unreleased
* Paul Simon - Graceland
* Santana - Supernatural
* Steve Coleman and five elements - Curves of life

It was hard... I even checked my collection... but these five albums give a good impression of my taste. Although I really love some other albums, these five give a nice balance of certain 'etiquettes' of instruments. Good guitarwork, saxophone, live improvising stuff or very tight funky, vocals and african beats and one of the best pop-albums I know.

Can't live without them!

You said 500 Cd's we couldn't live without, right? Well I still have to I'm down to 527 on my island so I think I'm doing pretty good!

#1 "Bright Size Life" Pat Metheny/ Jaco on Bass
#2 "Moondance" Van Morrison/ Just great Tunes!
#3 "Someday My Prince Will Come" /Miles Davis, Includes "Old Folks" one of Miles best tunes, But just about anything from Miles in the late 50's early 60's would do, "Kind of Blue" is a great one too as is "Round Midnight" and "Milestones" I just love the playing on the ballads, on Prince, Miles trumpet line for the melody of Old Folks is just sick. Paul Chambers on bass isn't bad either!
#4 "Pat Metheny Group" The first group album with great writing, and the best tone for a bass I've ever heard on a CD! Mark Egan handles the low end
#5 "Aja" Steely Dan, Great writing, Chuck Rainy on bass being just plain sick on "Joise" and "Peg, Another tough choice, could have gone with "Live in America" Tom Varney or "Katy Lied" in this case I just chose the classic
The other three I 'd sneak on the island instead of food! "Heavy Weather" Weather Report, "T.O.P. Live Soul Vaccination", and "Ballads"
John Coltrane more for Elvin Jones then anything else. One person I regret not seeing live.

'London Calling' by the Clash.

After that, I'd divide my other 350 CDs up and try to fit them into the remaining 4 CD cases.

It's not very diverse, but these albums just do it for me, and that's the most important thing, right?

Well, seeing as most of your average deserted islands have no electricity, and odds are you won't wash up on shore with a lifetime supply of batteries, I'd say it really doesn't matter what the five choices are, 'cause they're gonna be like coasters , you dig? In fact, I'd prefer to have five copies of ABBA's Greatest Hits, because I'd hate to have my five favorite albums of all time with me with no way to listen to them. Not being able to hear ABBA would make survival more appealing.

On this very special island, there is an hydroelectric generator and a Bose stereo with a speaker on every tree.

ABBA, Celine Dion, and a few others went to the next island, which is caracterised by a population of starving deaf cannibals and happens to be the scene of a new Reality Show.

While the world is watching this (except for you, no TV) you are listening to which 5 CDs ?

+1

I'd rather die than listening to five ABBA albums. Clear?
