9-string tapping video - Bach

Sign in to disble this ad
I think this is the right place for this?

here's a video of me tapping one of the bach inventions (#14?) on 9-string bass.

http://www.jeanbaudin.com/vids/jeanbaudin_bach.mpg

It's about 2 megs big - so it shouldn't be much of a download.

let me know what you guys think.

Very cool. Jean, do you find it more difficult to play more complex tapping pieces on your fanned fret basses compared to your standard ones?

Absolutely insane. You're tapping with all 4 fingers on both hands! Not to mention tapping all that on a 9 string. Just amazing!

I'd have to re-record it... which I wouldn't mind... I can play it a lot better. I can probably do the Super Mario and Zelda themes too.

The fretboard really makes no difference to me at least for this piece (I laid out all the counterpoint so they don't stretch more than a 5-8 fret span) ... The length of the upper horn and the balance point on my knee do make a difference in "difficulty". The bach thing is easier on the fanned fret basses because the bass balances better on my knee.

I have a couple of tapping pieces with really high notes (pee-wee herman theme song comes to mind) that are not difficult to play - but because of the fan, and the fact that Pac-Man ate the fret markers - I have to guess quickly which fret to hit...that will change with the 11-strings since I can put those high notes on more even frets - am I making sense?

Another thing on the new basses - I'm having the balance point moved closer to the fret board... I had to kinda come up with a secret technique to "readjust" the bass on my knee...rewatch the video and you'll see there's about 5-6 spots where I kick the bass up with my knee and grab the back with both thumbs to put it back in "position". Darrin Huff is the only person whose seen me play and commented on this "sleight of hand" trick.

Funny, my pac-man arcade game can definitely use an excorism.

Let us know if you do re-record any of the pieces, Jean. That would be very cool to see!
