Sign in to disble this ad
ive been getting a lot into dub lately and am digging this player's tone

www.myspace.com/rootstonic

Any advice as to how to get a tone similar to that? Im thinking tube amp w/ flatwounds and obviously technique, but gear wise...any suggestions?

Jazz bass, flats, no mute, both pickups full, tone slightly down,

right on Color. If you are playing live use a cab with 2- 15's or 1- 18 to give you that deep bottom end. If your cab is on casters, remove them and put it on the floor. Turn off the tweeter if you have one. Roll off the highest mids. Keep the low mids on (if you can) and a little treble too. If you roll off all the high tones it gets muddy and you lose your punch.

You could also try an FX25 pedal by (i forget right now)

Search the Effects forum for "FX25". There are tons of threads

its not an effects pedal thing

old round wounds or flat wounds and a tube amp
fender bass, variances exist but thats the main recipe

Aston Family Man Barret, Robbie Shakespeare and Bill Laswell, are all living in this tone land
