Was listening to the album, "Love and Luck" by Marty Stuart last night and today at work, and am reminded that what a great musician Marty is. Marty often gets lumped in that "90s pop country" bracket with Travis Tritt, John Michael Montgomery, Alan Jackson, etc. And while there is nothing wrong with those artists, Marty Stuart, IMO was so much more... in terms of genuine songwriting and great musicianship.
I recommend this album to anyone. Marty Stuart came up playing with Johnny Cash and Earl Scruggs, and has since played with many other artists, including Roger McGuinn.
The album I am recommending is from the early 90s. It struck me today listening to it, how awesome the bass playing is. I am not sure who the bassist is (Id love to know), but the lines are very "non-country". Many of the songs have great walking, swinging, blues, and jazzy lines. It's definitely worth checking out.. |
