Al album where you wouldn't expect outstanding bass playing...Marty Stuart?

Was listening to the album, "Love and Luck" by Marty Stuart last night and today at work, and am reminded that what a great musician Marty is. Marty often gets lumped in that "90s pop country" bracket with Travis Tritt, John Michael Montgomery, Alan Jackson, etc. And while there is nothing wrong with those artists, Marty Stuart, IMO was so much more... in terms of genuine songwriting and great musicianship.

I recommend this album to anyone. Marty Stuart came up playing with Johnny Cash and Earl Scruggs, and has since played with many other artists, including Roger McGuinn.

The album I am recommending is from the early 90s. It struck me today listening to it, how awesome the bass playing is. I am not sure who the bassist is (Id love to know), but the lines are very "non-country". Many of the songs have great walking, swinging, blues, and jazzy lines. It's definitely worth checking out..

Thanks for the tip. I have been a Marty Stuart fan for some time, with Country Music being my favorite CD release thus far.

Let me know what you think of it. Marty is definitely more than a great haircut and cool rhinestone jackets!

Also, have you heard any of his more recent, bluegrass/gospel/roots stuff? I heard a great song the other day by him... something like "At the End of the Rainbow is Jesus".

The two most recent CDs of his I have are Badlands and Souls' Chapel. Badlands had some really great material, but some songs I couldn't listen to more than a few times, so I made up a mix that I liked from the CD and listened to that. Souls' Chapel--which is gospel but doesn't include the song you mentioned--was less to my liking. My complaint was not the musicianship, which was excellent--but the material. I guess gospel isn't my thing.
