Al Di Meola Question

Does anyone know who played bass on Suite Golden Dawn from the "Land of the Midnight Sun" album? Some great playing whoever it was; surprised I haven't seen this track discussed here before.

The following synopsis of that album would indicate that "Suite Golden Dawn" featured none other than Jaco on bass... (and thanks for flagging this album - just bought it. Long fan of Elegant Gypsy also.)

I love this tune. I have the vinyl and have recently downloaded Land of the Midnight Sun, Elegant Gypsy and Casino. All those great fusion records have such awesome players. Every time I think that I've heard it all, I come across another great record that blows me away.

Bass_Thumper ... I've had Casino for a few months, but this thread has had me revisiting everything I own of Di Meola, soon to be augmented further. And Casino is great, also very special. Yeah, I know what you mean about revelation appearing at every turn ... and to think this is ALL late 70s or early 80s at the latest. @#$%.

I have Senor Mouse playing as I type ... it was on my mind for more than an hour before I got to it. Al Di Meola reminds me, every time I listen, of what genius fusion composers brought to this world. I'll debate fusion critics until I expire.

And to think that "Land of the Midnight Sun" was recorded when DiMeola himself was merely 21. He had great visions for bassists as well as for guitar... or was open to their own revelations, incorporated...

For an interesting discussion of this tune, check out the "Jaco????" thread in the Bassists forum. The good stuff starts on page 10.

I agree with you 100% I was lucky enough to catch the Return to Forever reunion tour and was on the 4th row right in front of Al and I can't even begin to explain what that was like. Being that close and watching the band interaction and the joy that was being shared was incredible.

It really is amazing to thing that Al was just a youngster when he came on the scene. What a fireball.
