Sorry if it's been posted before, but DAMN can this guy play.
I've only seen snippets of his playing before. But man this guy rips.
His bass solo is 4:25 on.
Man oh man. And his fretless playing is even scarier!!

Yeah, the dude is amazing. Very odd technique as well. Never saw anyone use their pinky and ring fingers to pop with! But yeah, dude is well known in these here parts.

I wasn't sure if he was using his pinky. It looks like it's just hanging there for the most part.
But he's definitely using his ring.
I'll watch again.

Alain is the MAN

he had a killer real media clip of Slam the Clown on his site a while back... not sure if it's still there.

I don't think he's popping with his ring finger or pinky... that seems to be the anchor/leverage.

More amazing than his chops, he knows every note he is playing. I was at a seminar he gave about six months ago and never seen anyone in so much control of what he's doing and why. I sure hope someday he writes a bass book.

In high school, one of my teachers lent me a VHS with a recording of a UZEB concert, I wish I coulda kept that video! It opened with Alain doing a solo fretless bass intro, but vocally doubling the solo. Absolutely amazing.

i actuallly disliked this clip compared to a lot of others i have seen from him. i really love his fretless playing, and thought this seemed sort of sloppy and not very musical which is the exact opposite of his flawless fretless technique...whihc had me sort of baffled while watching it.

I fortunatly was able to meet Alain at the January NAMM show. He is a very nice and VERY humble person.

I was telling him that I use his Play CD for my bass lessons. He immediately pulled out that CD and started playing along with it. I was thrilled to say the least. And he does use his pinky and ring finger to snap.

I very highly recommend his DVD. It is produced extremely well and the camera angle show his technique up close. And also he has several of his albums in a book with notation and a CD with the bass removed so that you can play along.

The man is my top favorite bass player and a very big inspiration for my fretless playing.

As a huge Marcus Miller fan, I have to say that Caron put down some of the most amazing slapping I have ever heard! The line to the song itself is impressive, that solo was virtuosity plus!

Another point is that I had never heard an F Bass before. I really dig that tone. It is like a Fender, but not quite. I would love to hear an F Bass five or four too.

The thing with Alain is that he has incredible technique - BUT, he alwasy sounds musical and never self-indulgent.

I was privileged to jam with him about 10 years ago, and the half hour we spent playing threw up ideas which I am still working on!! hahaha

He is simply incredible - and a great guy as well!!

Great clip - one of the clearest I've seen of his slap technique, which is truly amazing - I know having seen a little video interview with him where he explained his slap technique - he just uses thumb and index, middle and also double thumbs - he uses his pinky to anchor his hand in a steady position, but it obviously looks like he plucks with it, I don't think he does. I know it sounds obvious but he simply does thumb, index, thumb index a lot of the time, but then does subtle triplets by adding in his middle finger, he also goes up and down with his thumb - it's just all incredibly controlled and beautifully executed. He gets even more points for not only playing tasteful lines but play the majority of his solo below the 10th fret - the guy is a monster - the fretless clip of him playing solo at NAMM 07 is utterly sick too

Still a majorly underrated talent imo! That said, I have "5" and it's really not a very good record, but luckily the majority of his stuff is better than that!

I have a 'live' cd of his and he plays D-Code solo before the band comes in and it is smokin'! Looks like the dude barely breaks a sweat playing! I'd love to see him get more into it!

Alain is the only super flashy bassist I love because he's more concerned with writing a killer song that impressing bass players. I love his stuff.
