WOW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkOYGlI-zoo
Sorry if it's been posted before, but DAMN can this guy play.
I've only seen snippets of his playing before. But man this guy rips.
His bass solo is 4:25 on.
Man oh man. And his fretless playing is even scarier!! |

But he's definitely using his ring.
I'll watch again. |

he had a killer real media clip of Slam the Clown on his site a while back... not sure if it's still there.
I don't think he's popping with his ring finger or pinky... that seems to be the anchor/leverage. |

I was telling him that I use his Play CD for my bass lessons. He immediately pulled out that CD and started playing along with it. I was thrilled to say the least. And he does use his pinky and ring finger to snap.
I very highly recommend his DVD. It is produced extremely well and the camera angle show his technique up close. And also he has several of his albums in a book with notation and a CD with the bass removed so that you can play along.
The man is my top favorite bass player and a very big inspiration for my fretless playing.

Another point is that I had never heard an F Bass before. I really dig that tone. It is like a Fender, but not quite. I would love to hear an F Bass five or four too.

I was privileged to jam with him about 10 years ago, and the half hour we spent playing threw up ideas which I am still working on!! hahaha
He is simply incredible - and a great guy as well!!

I know it sounds obvious but he simply does thumb, index, thumb index a lot of the time, but then does subtle triplets by adding in his middle finger, he also goes up and down with his thumb - it's just all incredibly controlled and beautifully executed. He gets even more points for not only playing tasteful lines but play the majority of his solo below the 10th fret - the guy is a monster - the fretless clip of him playing solo at NAMM 07 is utterly sick too

Looks like the dude barely breaks a sweat playing! I'd love to see him get more into it! |
