Pink Floyd Piper at the Gates of Dawn and the two solo Syd Barrett albums... definitely Captain Beefheart, and I'd have to say anything by Ruins because they sing in a completely fabricated alien language.
Or are we talking interesting = complex/effective/amazing?
I've always liked Neil Young's lyrics because they are unique and simple, On the Beach and Tonight's the Night being some of his best.
Relatively, bluesman J.B. Lenoir's album Vietnam Blues has some downright amazing lyrics, especially for the blues.
Though, my favorite lyric cycles are Elliot Smith's first album, the Kinks' Arthur, and Minutemen's Double Nickles on the Dime... all for different reasons

strange orwellian influenced view of the human kind, but very well done.
also i always liked Tom Petty's lyrics, especially on the Wallflower album. Simplicity at its best |

With lines like,
Oh, I said "I'm so happy, I could die."
She said "Drop dead," then left with another guy.

what else can you say?

"I was there when the bear ate his head, and thought it was a candy."?
Pink Floyd's "The Wall" has some interesting lyrics as well.
The Clones of Dr. Funkestein, Motor Booty Affair and Mothership Connection - Parliament. Hell, who am I kidding?! All of their albums had interesting lyrics!

As far as politics go , The Clash's self titled debut is the best.

Especially the legendary "The Holy Bible."
Not just the lyrics are interesting, but it's like a miracle that they were able to write songs with those lyrics that still sound amazing. |

| | | | I'm surprised at how many people have said Hemispheres. When I say the thread title, I immediatley thought of that one. 2112 also comes to mind, if only for the title track.
I'll also add two albums by the Matthew Good Band; Beautiful Midnight and Underdogs. I highly reccomend these albums. Matt Good is also an amazing singer, for the record.
