Albums WHere The Bass Is Mixed Ridiculously Up Front!

Sign in to disble this ad
Off the top of my head, in no particular order, there's...

Close To The Edge

Abby Road

Rio

Hemispheres

Piece of Mind

Grand Funk Red

Led Zep II

And oddly enough, they all sound REALLY GOOD! The mix is just right IMO.

I just realized -- these are very old recordings! lol

Any others?

Rancid has the bass way up front, especially on "...And Out Come the Wolves."

Elvis Costello's work with the Attractions has Bruce's bass on par with Elvis' voice. Check out "This Year's Model" or "Armed Forces."

I like that both of these are considered "punk" despite punk often having the reputation for burying rootline bassnotes under the guitars.

Greg Rzab's bass is mixed pretty loudly on Buddy Guy's 1991 album "Damn Right, I've got the Blues", on Silvertone Records.

I don't think Geddy's bass is loud enough on that album in a lot of places.

His 2002 CD "When I Was Cruel" also has Davey Faragher's bass waaaaaay too up front, by design.

For our live shows I have been mixing the bass much more up front rather than blended in like I used to. Nothing but positive comments even though I am a hack bassist.

The first Bang Camaro album. Luckily it's a Ric and it sounds awesome.
