Cool Albums You Bought Because Of The Cover Art...

Sign in to disble this ad
I've done this a few times, and I did it again today. I was at Best Buy, looking for nothing in particular, when I happened across an album by Sonic Youth called Daydream Nation. I thought the cover looked cool, so I bought it. I've never heard Sonic Youth before (though I've heard of them), but I bought it anyway.

So what albums have you bought based solely on the cover art?

I bought the first Dredg album for its cover art (or really lack there of...) having never heard of them before. But it was also only $4 so I was easily swayed.

Cool album, imo.

Who the hell buys albums based solely on cover art???

Mabey I just don't because I lack the funds....

Anyway, speaking of cover art I like alot of primus covers because they have some pretty trippy clay sculptures. Check out miscellaneous debris and sailing the seas of cheese. Both have some really crazy cover art.

You're officially awesome. I saw them once, and it was the best live show EVER

I bought One Self's "Children of Possibility" purely because of the cover... and I love it. And I payed the full price.20€.
I also bought Jasper and the Prodigal Suns' album "Yesteryear" b/c of the cover and it happens to be the best album I own. And it only cost 1€ or so...

And few days ago I bought Neurosis' old album (can't remember the name) and it didn't rock. I was kinda surprised it was punk (should have quessed by the cover...) So I got Callisto's "True Nature Unfolds" instead. And it rocks.

I'm sure I've bought other albums too by the cover but can't remember. It's about the vibe. That's how you discover new music.

Not just because of the cover art, but Fantomas's Suspended Animation probably has the coolest concept/cover art.

Yep, Dredg is pretty bad-ass. Great live, too. One of my better random grabs.

I have bought a bunch of albums without having heard them first. And as a graphic designer the cover art is a good a reason as any to get a record. I like buying stuff with no expectations - you can get into stuff that is way outside of your normal preferences that way. Cool by me!

IIRC, I got the first King's X album that way as well.

Someone gave me a record voucher for a present many years ago and I walked in and saw this sitting on the shelf and thought it looked interesting:

Turned out to be a very cool band and got me into Front Line Assembly as well.

Oh, forgot to mention that.

Like I said, I've never heard Sonic Youth before. But now I'd sure like to hear more. I've been listening to it all day, it's very interesting stuff, guitar wise. I detect some messed up tunings, if I'm not mistaken. Just a great album overall, IMO. My favourite songs so far are Cross The Breeze, Candle, and Teenage Riot.

For those of you who don't know thiis album, here is the cover art I was drawn to:

I should do this more often. It's a good way to find new music.

Good one. Awesome album too.

Iron Maiden albums always caught my attention as a kid. I bought Killers because of the cover art when I was 13, and still listen to it regularly to this day.

Back in 1979 I didn't know anything about MH and this cover art grabbed my attention instantly. I gave it a listen at the record store and sounded great to me.
