Albums you love but would like to hear them re-mixed

Hey guys,

What are some albums you like musically but you don't like the production on? There are some real obvious ones like And Justice For All but I'd like to hear you guys opinions!

One of mine is Talk To Your Daughter by Robben Ford. Love the songs and Vinnie Coalutia and Roscoe Beck are on it so the playing is tight but I hate that 80's sound.

I agree, I listened to this record just yesterday and the 80's production is all over it but since it's such a great record, I just look over it. Larry Carlton had a good idea when he wanted to release a best of, he just re-recorded everything. Interesting take and I'd like to see more artists doing that as well.

The first one to come to my mind is Rush - Vapor Trails. Everyone talks bad about the production on it so much that they have even remixed a couple of songs and included them on a greatest hits. They sound like new songs. I wish they would just redo that whole album and re-release.

Slayer's "God Hates Us All" is very very tinny. Not the typical good Rick Rubin sound.

Great idea for a thread. What comes to mind first are the early Kassav' albums. A song like "Zouk-La Se Sel Medikaman Nou Ni" is fantastic but the production is just too 80s (and I like a lot of the productions from the 80s).

Brain Salad Surgery. Worst sounding great album of all time.

Al Dimaola's Casino is a bass masterpice (Anthony JAckson) but he gets a little buried at times.

Symphony X's V -- it'd be nice if the guitar didn't cover everything.

Lots of Motown stuff can be improved with modern production. Lots of Metal stuff can be improved by lessening the distortion, which at a certain point is just noise.

Round Midnight can have louder bass too.

I was reminded of this yet again the other night while DJing. I always end up having to pull down the highs a bit on most of the 60s Motown stuff.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin - God Fodder
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Afghan Whigs - Up in It

At one time I thought Nirvana - Bleach but I have the re-mastered and the original and I like the original more.

i've heard that a lot of the early motown, brill, phil spector type stuff was mixed for the transistor radios that were common at the time

Out of curiosity, I'd love to hear all of Black Sabbath's albums redone with modern gear and recording. Not saying they would be better...just that I think I'd enjoy them...Vol. 4 especially.

Funny I was just talking about this the other day (kinda). I was listening to some 90's albums with friends. Some of that stuff sounds TERRIBLE (Sponge in particular) but it was the sound of the time.
So in short: I wouldn't. Should we put Van Gogh's art on different, "better" canvas?
Music is a snapshot of the band and the time in the world.

i guess a good remixing would make some of the music i love from the 80's a bit easier to enjoy- like the later jaco records, those have some ugly production and super-lame drum trigger sounds.

at the same time though, i dont know if i'd litterally enjoy it more if a modern producer had his way with the tracks. the production is, to me, part of the performance of the record.. to an extent, atleast.

Bad Brains - Black Dot... or really anything by them. Incredible music, but boy is it washed out and muddy.

The music is a snapshot, but the production and mixing techniques are something that sometimes hide the "magic behind a great piece of music. Or they can make a bad piece sound great. Like Nirvana's "smells like teen spirit" a really bad song with great production behind it.

Not my favorite Yes album, but I'd love for Big Generator to get remastered. Also Pink Floyd's The Wall.
