"Soulful"? "Well of soul"? Nothing I've heard so far from her has any soul that I can hear, it's just Pablum.
Maybe one of you fans cans post a Youtube (or similar) link with a track that will show me I'm wrong? It'll be interesting to see what her fans think is "soulful". |

You would have said the same thing about Aretha Franklin if the timing was different....
....and yes, you are a grumpy old man

I'm an Aretha fan myself, but I have a hard time getting into Alicia Keys. It's similar to how I acknowledge that Dream Theater is techinically skilled, but how their music doesn't do anything for me. Alicia may have talent, but it doesn't move me.
On the other hand, how's this for soul? http://youtube.com/watch?v=gqZfPfHv0NQ

Keys may be "attractive" and she may have a nice-enough voice, and she can play the keys, great. Perfectly competent at her role in the pop production, and we should all be so successful. But that's a far cry from actually expressing guts and raw feeling the way a really soulful singer can. |

She's still aiming her music for the kids. She hasn't quite grown up yet! Maybe her next effort! To answer your question.........nope! There are some damn fine singers out there, that won't get the time of day on radio, with better voices than Alicia! I believe she's coasting on her looks right now! |

On the record, it is too Hip-Hop influenced...
Live, she is just rediculous. More soul and flaor than I know...
And her band is awesome. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
