alienating people at work: an experiment in music people hate

So you may be the kind of person who likes to screw with people when it comes down to playing songs that only you like. Johnny Rotten used to play "Trout Mask Replica" to clear parties. What would be your go to song/recording that you really dig that other people would not enjoy sitting through?

I'm asking because I'm having a good time watching people furrow their brows because I'm playing Helloween's "Keeper of the Seven Keys" at my desk.

I used to play Air Supply to clear out the apartment parties when it was time for people to go. I also used Mr. Bungle for the same task, but some of my friends started digging it so I had to go back to soft rock.

You will never, EVER hear music quite that strange. If you do, let me know what it is, because I want to hear it.

Frank Zappa and Devo also do great, and nobody can stomach Khanate or Today is the Day for very long.

"Love is like Oxygen"! We play that song all the time at work, but we all love it, so...

I play Dragonforce every once in a while. Myself and one of the guys there loves them, and another guy hates them.

Sometimes I play the soundtracks to Final Fantasy VII (or any of the other ones, I have most of them ), and most of the guys roll their eyes. "Here goes Greg, playing his video game music again"

And I work in the warehouse for a live sound company (we do sound for big concerts; Bumbershoot, Download festival, Endfest...etc), so we have a pretty killer system setup in the warehouse.

NO! That's just it...but his music can sure clear a room!

What kills me is that he apparently learned circular breathing expressly so that he could be annoying without any interruption. Seamless cheese!

I owe my sister an apology for ever suggesting that recording with the guy would be a good idea.

If I want to get people to leave me alone, I just through on some Pig Destroyer or other grind bands. Works like a charm.

I used to play the entire Ministry "Psalm 69" CD around 8 am in the office. And I sat right by the coffee pot.

Pat Metheny's Kenny G essay is classic.

I've never seen people literally run from anything but Grindcore.

The thing is that according to the OP, you have to be able to enjoy that music, while everyone else is puking their guts out.

BTW i would like to mention Godspeed You Black Emperor and A Triggering Myth, as excelent choices to annoy people while enjoying the sight of them leaving.

But to name a definitive track for annoying almost everyone and have a blast listening to it, it has to be RED by King Crimson.

Ok then, given that criteria, I gotta go with

"Glassjaw - Cosmopolitan Bloodloss" (if the folks are lightweights).

...Or anything by Allan Holdsworth (who is GOD).

Red's awesome! It wouldn't get me out of there.

I work at a club doing live sound and there are often drunk people who don't want to leave. The bartenders have a signal for me to crank up our official get out music. Most any Albert Ayler at full volume will work, I especially like the first track from New Grass. I have literally seen people run for cover!
There's also a particular song by Fatima Miranda that is one of my favorites, but nobody else seems to like it....
She's IMO one of the greatest singers around, and has tracks for free download at her website.

I used to like The Shaggs for clearing out a room, but I've found to my dismay that more often then not those 3 girls from New Hampshire illicit too much curiosity from guests. That music would, I think, become extrememly grating to your co-workers before long.

I did a gig where this drunk woman would not quit dancing on the stage ... We played outside by Staind and the lyrics were describing her perfectly ... she quit dancing

Cradle of Filth works well normally, but when I really want to get people out of the shop, I go with Meshuggah.

When they're gone, I play Marcus Miller and Vic.
