Just did this vid. A little solo bass version of the jazz standard "All The Things You Are". With my Stambaugh 6-string doing the chording, and my Kinal Acoustic doing the melody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8jWY56rDRw
Let me know what you think and enjoy!

Thanks though

Instead of having another part playing the melody, you should try weave in and out between chord comping and playing the melody. It should open up a bunch of possibilities especially if you get into more of a solo thing. You can also try staying even closer to the melody to make it a chord-melody type solo. Check out Joe Pass' guitar playing. |

Check out Joe Pass' guitar playing. | Thanks. I know much about Joe Pass, and I've seen him playing the same song as well. I know that's the ideal way to do it, weaving the chords with the melody and solo pieces. Like solo jazz guitarists do. I'm just not at that level yet, still working on doing just chords and bassline at the same time. It's really fun stuff though

I just got a 6-string bass and looking to start down same path into solo bass playing. Any advise on coming up with chord voicings?

With the root always on the bottom. I'll usually put the 3rd on top if the root is on the A-string, or the 3rd then 7th on top if the root is on the E or B-string. I'll usually leave out the 5th, unless it's altered, like a half-diminished chord.

It really amazes me how diverse skillsets are and the many types of music played by the TBers.
I can play, but I wouldn't even know where to start playing stuff like this.
