The genre "alt rock" has been around for about 20 years now. Some of these bands you've listed, although featuring worthy bassist, have only been contributing to the genre for a little over 5 years.

In any regard, these are my top 3;

Colin Greenwood- Radiohead

Kim Deal- The Pixies

Eric Avery- Janes Addiction

Listening to Silversun Pickups right now and digging the lines Nikki Monniger is putting down. Plus I love her voice. All very hypnotic.

I'm a huge Pixies fan, but if you think Kim Deal is a great bassist then your frame of reference must be different than mine.

Ira Wolf Tuton - Yeasayer
Billy Gould - Faith No More
Ben Shepard - Soundgarden

That is true. In fact, more like 30 years. So I'll put two of my favourites here -- both from the 80's:

Simon Gallup - The Cure.
Andy Rourke - The Smiths.
