alternative/rock/emo bass sound

hey everybody,
I am looking to get a similar bass sound than the songs I have listed here,
I have tracked the DI of the bass, I didn't use the miced tracks coz they sounded wack, however I was very surprised with the sound I got from the DI,
What I am looking for, is a decent bass sound that would be prominent throughout the whole song.

So far this is what I have tried;

- made a clone of the main bass track onto another track, on the first track, I compressed it a fair amount, Eq it with URS A 10 boosting between 30 and 60 hz I then limited it using L2,
now I went onto the cloned track and also compressed it but not as much as the first one, I inserted Izotope Thrash and distorted the **** out of it, EQ'd it than leveled the two tracks together. I have also read about sidechaining/ducking bass and kick so that these two elements wouldn't clash with each other, is this indispensable in getting a good bass sound?
the sound I got out of the bass is ok but not sick as hell. If anyone has any cool tips, clues, walkthroughs, cheats, codes to get a cool sounding modern emo screamo alternative rock punk bass sound similar to the above bands, feel free to post.
