Am I in the Geddy Lee ballpark with this sound?

Hey gang, just messing with my G&L an tech21 VT pedal. Am I getting in the Geddy Lee tone circa 78'-80'?
Thanks https://soundcloud.com/teepeerock/geddy-lee-bass-tone

I'd say you're pretty close. It does sound a bit low-mid-heavy, almost P-Bass like but it does sound real good. Nice. I mean, since it isn't a Ric 4001, you have a real close tone there.

4001, I did play with the neck pickup switch on. I will redo it with both pickups running.
Thanks though!

That's definitiely one of the closest Geddy tones I've ever heard actually. Really good. I'd echo the advice about it sounding a bit low-mid-heavy, but other than that it's pretty convincing. I do really like it as a tone in itself, it's just not quite Geddy.

Ok, redid it with both pickups on am I closer?

Ran the G&L into a splitter going into the VT (for the nasaly mid highs) and into the sans amp BDDI (for the lows) plugged em into an old fender guitar amp clean channel two inputs, and ran the headphone out to the computer.
heres the poop

Ok, check this out, I did it with the jazz bass

Ran the jazz bass at neck pickup full, bridge pickup 80%
treble knob wayyy down. I think that added a lil more grrr to it than buzzz.

This one sounds really good, in fact, I think it's the best one. Better than the first one. I'd go with this.

Thanks 4001, I bet if my G&L L2000 had a volume pickup blend knob(instead of a 3 way switch) I could get it to sound more like the ric than a P bass sound.
Got any geddy sounding ric clips 4001? Would love to hear some from you or others too.
we should start a "get your geddy lee tone" post on here for others to post their variations of his tones.

Sounds pretty good. Find a good clean version of the isolated bass tracks from Moving Pictures and compare back and forth. You can also get a decent Geddy Wal tone with your L2K.

Check 4001's signature and look at his videos. Excellent Geddy from his Rick and Jazz IMO.
