Talking Another "What Do You Think of My Tone" Thread...

Sign in to disble this ad
Did up some recordings with my "new" gain-to-the-Nth-degree guitar board and the PDDI for bass.

Here they are:
1 - Bass
2 - Rhythm Guitar
3 - Solo Guitar
4 - Rhythm Guitar/Bass
5 - Solo Guitar/Bass
6 - Rhythm+Solo Guitar/Bass

The 1st 3 are just the different individual tracks with drums. #4 and 5 are the different guitar tracks with bass, and the final #6 is all of them combined.

The guitar and bass tracks were recorded from my FX boards, into my computers sound card, into Audacity. For the guitars I used the XLR on my Punch Factory, and for the bass I used the XLR on the PDDI. The drum loop was programmed using Hammerhead Rhythm Station, exported, then actually looped in Audacity by copying, moving cursor to start, and pasting over and over.....

BTW only the drums, bass and rhythm guitar was planned and syncronized. The solo guitar was just recorded, without any drums, or other instruments playing, and just placed in around where the drums come in!

As for mixing, I just set each channel to play at -3dB. For the last one (#6), the solo guitar channel was set for -6dB.

Hope you enjoy! And, I'd like to have some feedback on the guitar tone as well

Well while I'm waiting for the first one to download, which will be followed by more individual downloads I'm wondering if it's really because I'm lazy or if it's just that normally it would be easier.

Anyway, I'll get back to you as soon as I can get them all listened to.

i listened to 1 and 6 last night but wasn't going to post anything because: a.) your tone is way way way over the top synth-y (imo) and 2.) i couldn't bring myself to listen to the whole track for various reasons (not my type of thing at all, and i think i can appreciate almost everything)

what genre would you call this song?

...yeah... its not really to my taste either. It surprises me that they make such awful sounding drum machines too! They could at least sample a crash thats not made of dustbins!

That was.... wow, I mean... words just fail me on this.

I'm sorry but I got through the first three and then I knew you weren't serious, but since you asked I've got to say, no, wait, I've got to ask.

Are you happy with it?

If so then who cares what I or anyone else thinks. By the way, I think avast bass is trying to be nice.

That guitar solo really takes the cake...

Thumbs up Apologies, Curiosity, and ROFLing....

First off, thanks for some great replys! Seriously, I am in no way being sarcastic, though I am LMAO right now!

I do feel I must apologize about the "lazy" comment. Me being me, I have only had about 10 hours of sleep in the last month. I really don't know why (it happens like this every so often...) but it's got me on edge. So, from the bottom of my heart, I apologize. Though I would like to know what some people have against sites like not-so-RapidShare...

I'm gonna have to start with this:

I am quite happy with it. It's actually what I want out of my tones, for the most part. The reason I post this is the same reasoning I have behind every "what do you think" I will ever do: Human Curiosity. I'm personally just a curious kinda guy. It's like the question I have above, I'm just curious as to "why"...

Anyway figured I might as well Quote and Respond:

That one made me . Really. Didn't really ROFL, cus it was to be expected...

That is a great one.
RE: "a" - I never would have thought of that description, and it so accuratly describes it!
RE: "genre?" - I really don't know.... I'd like to point out that I was completly SOBER during the recording process, though lack of sleep could be a factor. I'm kinda thinking "Experimental Stoner Jam Metal". Like I said before, the solo was recorded without any sound in the background. I just gave myself a time limit, and went with it. Only the first note was planned. Then I just placed it, timewise, somewere within the drums.

Those 2 really need to be responded to together.
I'm actually pleased that you find no words to describe my creation! It's the highest praise I will ever get

The best part of that one (IMO) was the "not a nice discovery" part. LOL Anyway, just think: now you do know that guitars and basses are capable of anything!

I think that it gives the right impact, even if it wasn't planned

How does one record in Audacity? I have the program but I can't figure out for the life of me how to record into it.

Just choose which input, the volume of said input, and press record!

No apology needed.

I hate rapidshare...because they make me wait for advertising unless I want to pay them. The pop-ups get blocked at least, but it annoys me.

I listened to the tracks.

VERY unique.

You are coming from an interesting place. Not really my taste, but there were moments I appreciated in a lighting bolt sort of way.

If you didn't post it on talkbass I wouldn't believe it's a bass being played. I understand what kind of music you're going for, but I think you should polish your sound a bit.
