What is that song called? I've been looking for it all day.
You know.. He does this rhythmic picking thing, totally funky, with Chaka.
Help!
BIG EDIT:
Looks like that's the O'Jays' song: For The Love of Money.
The one that goes "money money money money money... MONEY!"
Nevermind then.

The artist is the monster Dominican jazz pianist Michel Camilo; the CD is "Rendezvous", the tune is "From Within", the killer lick by Jackson is just before the second 'descarga' [D minor 1-4-5 vamp], with drum solo by none other than Dave Weckl. He does an arpeggiated chordal thing, also 1-4-5, that to me is really challenging. This is immediately after some brutal unison lines--low register, so you have to play fast & precisely, and *stretch*.
An outstanding moment from a brilliant recording. My old band used to cover this tune, and it definitely made us sweat. Jackson is a monster.

Listening to the track now - wonderful.
The one I'm looking for is basically funk/r&b. Very different than the Camilo stuff.

I wonder who's on bass in this clip?
Does anyone know if AJ ever played out live with The O'Jays? |

| | | | One jackson picking intro is on "clouds" from chaka kahns' "naughty" album...
I seem to remember reading that jackson did get a writing credit for " for the love of money" from the O'jays "ship ahoy album.
Not 100% sure tho.

This is personally one of my favorite bass tracks ever. His note placement along with the drums is tight and restrained, and yet he rocks those 'jamerson-esque' licks all over the place. That, and hearin all those Low C's in the context of a pop song really make me glad to have a five! |

Not 100% sure tho. | I'm pretty sure that it or maybe "Move No Mountain" or "Our Love's In Danger" both of which are on the Naughty CD from 1980.

If I were a betting man, I'd say 'No'. | I couldn't see the video but I do have a live DVD of CHAKA back when "What Cha Gonna Do For Me?" was out and the live band is just about straight from the album... including AJ, who you can only see the top of his afro the entire DVD
But he's killin' on a 4 string detuned Fender. |
