After going to Santa Cruz Blues Fest this weekend, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers are on my list as well. B.B. is VERY sharp, and quite a sarcastic cat.

However, I probably end up playing bass behind blues guitar players as much as anything else as of late. I hate when they call a tune and I don't know it, otoh, a couple of the guys know that I don't know the tunes by name. So they just call the 'form' and key and I'm fine. (12 bar in Ab, take it from the five..)

Eggz aktlee!
Can't begin to remember the number of pick up gigs I've had to do this same way. I've been primarily in blues bands since I started playing as a teenager. If you can follow this course and keep your wits about you, you are a most valuable commodity, my friend. |

"Shuffle in A come in sideways from the 5" ... I can remember it like it was yesterday ... you learn quick, when doing it on the fly live on stage ... Flash-forward to just last Saturday night get a call at noonish can you make a gig tonite Beale Street at 10, regular bass player can't make it ... some things never change. |
