My band will be putting up our new album up on myspace for download tonight at midnight until March 2nd. If you're into bands like Boris, Earth, Sunn O))) or Khanate please check it out. Also anyone who knows of Admiral Angry and Daniel Kraus, he was our best friend and band mate who passed away last year tomorrow and this band is dedicated to him.
The myspace link is in my signature.
Hope you enjoy.
Thanks

| | | | I am a HUGE fan of Admiral Angry. I am waiting to download the Fields EP right now. I cannot wait. I also love Sun O))).
I am trying to start up a similar type of drone band here in Boise. Having a lot of set backs right now though which sucks.
If you haven't, check out PussyGutt from Boise.
Check out Tecumseh and Trees from Portland if you haven't already.

Their new EP 'A Fire to Burn Down the World' will blow you away, I suggest picking it up on Vinyl when it comes out in spring. If it wasn't for Daniel and the rest of the Admiral guys I wouldn't know anything about music, they're my closest friends and its nice to know their hard work is appreciated outside our little niche friends.
Sound Lives Forever. http://www.myspace.com/admiralangry

Heard Fields before. Very good stuff. Will download tomorrow.
I've got some drone stuff written, just need to record it. After that I need a vehicle to move my 600 something pounds worth of amps and cabs to the occasional show.

| | | Even for down-tempo that track in the player is lethargic. Good stuff. I'm starting a NeoFolk/Dark Ambient/Drone project in the next few days so this should help get me in the proper mindspace. Thanks for sharing.
Condolences for your friend and best of luck. |

Well. Not a fanatic about it or anything, but I think it's pretty awesome.
Anyone got any advice for drone bass?

I'm also a fan of postmetal, which shares a lot with drone, IMHO. I would encourage this thread to check out "Godspeed you Black Emperor", "Mogwai" and the stellar band known as "Omega Massif"

| | | | I guess you're using the term as sort of an adjective for a style of recent ambient metal type acts. I like some of that. But to me "drone music" is an older style that is under the larger umbrella of minimalism. Eliane Radigue, La Monte Young, Pauline Oliveros, Charlemagne Palestine, Organum, Tony Conrad, and many others have made music like that (among other types they have worked with) where the music consists entirely of drones.
Way too many to list have made music where the drone is a part of it but there are other non sustaining elements, from Indian classical music to many kinds of experimental, minimal, or ambient styles, to those ambient metal acts you're referring to.

You are really speaking my language. I'm a big fan of Oliveros, LaMonte Young, C. Palestine, etc. Didn't ever expect to see them mentioned here.

But man, the last 3-4 Earth releases are something wholly other. Hex, The Bees Made Honey and Angels of Darkness remind me more of alien musicians trying to pull off spaghetti western soundtrack music after ingesting a bunch of valium. And by that I mean, good stuff.

Obviously drone music isn't all I listen to, but when I'm in the mood to zone out Coil has been doing it for me lately. It's Peter Christopherson from Throbbing Gristle. Check it out. YouTube - ‪Coil - Methoxy-N, N-Dimethyl‬‏
Also, I got bored and made a bandcamp for Fields incase anyone is interested in listening still (myspace is just terrible). We haven't been active as a band and the song that's up is old but if you enjoy clean tone Earth-esque drone and the heavier Sunn stuff, that pretty much sums up what we were going for back then. fields
I'm interested in hearing any other suggestions you guys have, even if it's not drone, it's always a pleasant surprise discovering new music.

| Earth 2 is so brilliant...
Whenever I listen to it, I think that there's definitely something we're missing. Something that Dylan Carlson put in, something that he hears/feels that the rest of the humans are missing.
Brilliant stuff.

It's so sad that Daniel passed away, when I listened to A Fire To Burn Down The World it really moved me. I checked out Fields, the song you have up is very harrowing. I mean that in a good way of course.

| | needs more fuzz | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia | | | I'm a huge drone fan. I worked in a call center once and I remember listening to Sunn since the beginning of my shift to the end. There were times when I was really nice to customers, then out of nowhere I was just furious with everyone. It could be in the middle of a conversation. I listened to the majority of their discography that night.
