U2 was a band I always liked and respected, but I was never a big fan until Achtung Baby, which I think is their best album.

I don't think Pop is as consistently good, but the songs that I like from that album I really like. Mofo is such a departure for them (in a good way) and Discotheque is one of my favorites. Staring At the Sun is one I dig too despite sounding quite a bit like an Oasis outtake.

Interestingly, it's U2's worst selling album.

I would have thought it would be Zooropa, even though Lemon might be my favorite U2 song.

POP

I am a huge U2 fan and this is my 2nd favourite album,How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is my favoutite.Pop has the best bass lines of any U2 album. The band had to release the album before they had actually finished it because they were running out of time for the rehersals of the POPMART Tour. There has been talk in recent years from Bono that they will one day finish it properly. They re recorded a few tracks of it for there best of 1990-2000 album, but in my opinion they weren't as good as the originals.

New Album

They will release there 1st single off there next album next August followed by the album in September. This is the U2 way. They have had 3 major recording session since March,1 in France,1 in Dublin and there last one was in Morroco. They have around 8 songs completed and have another 10 - 12 peices that there are working on,they also have 3 or 4 left from the last album. They are getting back into the studio in the first week of November. They have also used Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois as co song writers this time around. The new album is a return to the Achtung Baby sound.A friend of mine is one of there crew.

I've never heard it. I dig U2 but I don't think it will be one I'll be looking up.

Coincidentally I was listening to this album, reading about it and watching the newly released DVD of 'Live in Mexico' recently!

I rather like this album. I find it's sound and imagery appealing. Most people I know aren't keen on it citing it as different to their other material, I guess this is true, especially with tracks like 'Mofo', but I find that U2 albums have their own personality and sonic texture.

I used to be a big u2 fan !!! which I am not anymore !!!
But Achtung Baby is my fav album !!!
Pop is also exciting !!
Its funny how I always liked Adam Clayton's fat low end sound
but ended up playing trebly chords and slaps as a solo artist =)

Yes, I like the record. I like pretty much everything from U2, I got into them when "October" was released and have been following as a fan since.

Me too, I -love- "Lemon". Great remix on the "I've Got You Under My Skin" CD maxi-single.

POP is very much a "love it or hate it" album, of which I love it - there's many tales about how the band had to rush through the recording, mixing, and mastering due to a Word tour already book. If you have the 2-disc "Best of 90-00" I'd highly recommend burning a disc/making an iPod playlist using the remixes on the second cd of the "Best of". That was the band's way of redeeming the album by "finishing" the songs, for lack of a better term.
